We made News Corp

As the Murdoch empire crumbles like a castle on a cliff edge falling into the sea below, it’s worth remembering that we built it.  Our culture’s appetite for celebrity ‘news’ and gossip, mixed with venon and hypocrisy, is what gave the old man the power he had and wielded over us.  The point is well made by Henry Porter and Andrew Rawnsley in today’s Observer.  Tostoy said that people with power only have it only insofar as it is bestowed upon them by others.  We made Rupert Murdoch, we shall unmake him now.  Not before time, and then we have to clean up after him – in politics, journalism, the Met, but most of all our culture.
